Ma Yuan

  Ma Lizhong, courtesy name Yuan, pen name Shuren, art names Du Ma, Master of Xianyou Studio, Master of Jinglan Studio, and Master of Shangmei Studio. Born in October 1962 in Gansu Province, Lanzhou City. Proficient in all five scripts—seal, clerical, regular, running, and cursive—with particular expertise in seal script. Beyond calligraphy, he is also passionate about seal carving. Currently a member of the China Agricultural and Workers' Democratic Party, Standing Director of the China Institute of Calligraphy, Painting, and Seal Art, Member of the China Calligraphers Association, Deputy Secretary-General of the Lanzhou Calligraphers Association, Member of the Gansu Provincial Calligraphers Association, Member of the Gansu Photographers Association, Director of the Development Committee of the Gansu Jinshi Seal Carving Research Institute, Advisor to the Lanzhou Daqian Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Deputy Art Director of the Record Network China Institute of Calligraphy and Painting, Vice President of the Gansu Military Innovation Calligraphy and Painting Academy, among other positions. Recipient of the "Gardener Award" from the Cultural Ministry's Art Center and the Gansu Provincial Calligraphers Association, as well as the title of "Outstanding Children’s Calligraphy and Painting Teacher" from the Calligraphy Newspaper. His works have won awards including the Excellence Prize in the "Julong Cup" Calligraphy and Painting Competition of the China Arts Festival, the Third Prize in the First China Art Grand Exhibition and Contest, the Gold Prize in the "Spring Breeze Ode" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition, and the Gold Prize in the "Yanhuang Cup" International Calligraphy and Painting Art Exchange Masterpiece Exhibition.
