Chai Shenghua, surnamed Chai, given name Shenghua, with art names Qiuchen, Ziyuan, and Fengzhi, was born in 1984 in Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, into a scholarly family. He demonstrated exceptional calligraphy talent from an early age and, influenced by his uncle and elder brother (renowned calligraphers), developed a deep passion for painting and calligraphy. He began learning calligraphy at the age of eight, initially studying the style of Ouyang Xun, followed by the styles of the Two Wangs. Later, he studied Sun Guoting and Zhao Mengfu. At the age of twelve, he won the first prize in soft-brush calligraphy at the Gansu Provincial Youth Art Competition.
He is currently the Head of the Calligraphy Department at the Gansu Han Culture Research Institute, a member of the Gansu Calligraphers Association, a member of the Gansu Artists Association, a council member of the Jiuquan City Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Jiuquan City Artists Association.
His calligraphy is elegant and refined, yet steady and grounded. His works exhibit profound traditional skill combined with distinct personal characteristics, offering a refreshing and captivating experience that remains engaging upon repeated viewing—infusing ancient charm with innovative vitality, avoiding all clichés.
