Personal Profile
Liang Weihong, born in 1975 in Malaysia, is a seasoned collector and artist of Chinese calligraphy and painting. He began practicing calligraphy at an early age and has consistently studied and copied various classical scripts, including Northern Steles, the Twelve Masterpieces of Longmen, and the Zhang Qian Stele. He has particularly devoted himself to an in-depth study of the styles of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi, as well as Huaisu’s calligraphy, thoroughly mastering the essence of Chinese calligraphy. His brushwork is vigorous and powerful, with strong bone structure, and he has developed a distinctive personal style rooted in the stele tradition, earning widespread admiration from people across all walks of life. He studied under Huang Junbi, and also took as his masters the Venerable Ru Shangren (Bhikshu Benhui), Yu Junming (Dong Deng), and Zhong Zhengchuan, laying a profound foundation in both calligraphy and painting.
Under the guidance of Professor Huang Junbi, he developed unique insights into Chinese landscape painting, firmly believing that a good traditional Chinese painting must be grounded in "brush-and-ink skill and calligraphic mastery." His calligraphy and paintings have been collected by museums in Paris, Beijing, and Taiwan. His works have also received high praise from renowned cultural figures such as Sha Menghai, Xia Rucheng, Deng Lin, Fu Shen, and He Huai-shuo.
In the field of art authentication, he received direct instruction from Professor Wang Yichuan (Jiqian), and adheres to the principle that "in art authentication, one must always take calligraphy as the teacher." He emphasizes that authentic collections should be based on the criteria of "multiple publications, authoritative publications, and lifetime publications." He proposed the concept of "Authentication Studies as Evidence Studies," integrating legal principles into authentication theory, thereby propelling traditional art authentication into a new and innovative domain. He is also a lay disciple of Venerable Hsing Yun of Taiwan, annually donating calligraphy works to the Fo Guang Shan Art Museum and frequently holding calligraphy and painting exhibitions abroad, donating all proceeds to charitable organizations and orphanages.
