Looking back on my unhappy childhood: My father passed away when I was two years old, leaving me, my younger siblings, and my mother to rely on each other. At age seven, although deaf and mute, I was still able to attend school together with my younger brother—one small happiness. From early on, I loved drawing, writing, engraving, and paper-cutting. At school, I especially enjoyed watching teachers draw on the blackboard. After returning home from school, I would repeatedly copy comic strips from picture books every day. My grandparents were delighted to see my artistic talent. My grandfather then went to a bookstore and bought me three books: Xu Beihong’s works, techniques of freehand bird painting, and the Jieziyuan Manual. Receiving these books filled me with overwhelming joy, and I persisted in practicing tirelessly every day, starving for knowledge in painting! Later, my mother found us a stepfather. Because I am deaf and mute, he refused to let me continue schooling, leaving me heartbroken and crying bitterly. Eventually, he allowed me to enroll at the Changtu Special Education School, where I resumed my journey in art. I am deeply grateful to my stepfather, my mother, and my grandparents—throughout this journey, there has been hardship and sweetness, sorrow and reward, darkness and sunshine. But it is my boundless love and dream for art that compels me to devote my entire life to painting and fine arts, for only here do I feel true happiness and fulfillment.
