Personal Profile

Cai Jingzhong: Chinese monumental calligraphy artist and poet. His courtesy name is Yi Miao, pen name Cai Leizi, dharma name Miao Zhong, and self-styled as the Master of Ruyi Pavilion; male, Han ethnicity. Born in 1970 in Anxi County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, currently residing in Xiamen City. He is presently recognized as a special supply artist for China's state diplomatic gifts, member of the Chinese Monumental Calligraphy Art Research Association, National First-Class Painter, member of Shanghai Monumental Calligraphy Research Association, member of Poetry Journal's Creative Research Center, member of China Education Television's Ink & Danqing Painting Academy, director of the Chinese Tea Hometown Ouyi Painting and Calligraphy Gallery. In 2010, he joined the Tangxia Branch of Dongguan Calligraphers Association in Guangdong Province, becoming also a member of the Contemporary Cultural and Art Center Writers Committee and Weibian Literature Research Association. Cai Jingzhong has been influenced by his family since childhood—both parents being teachers. At age seven, under his father’s guidance, he began dedicating himself to studying calligraphy. Later, he benefited greatly from instruction by teachers Weng Huozhi, Li Yujin, Chen Jincheng, among others. Passionate about painting and calligraphy, he holds a particular affection for monumental (榜书) calligraphy. Initially practicing clerical script and Yan style, he later studied the styles of Ouyang Xun, Liu Gongquan, Wang Xizhi, as well as Wei stele inscriptions. He believes that "in creating each work, one must integrate heart, intention, realm, emotion, spirit, and energy—only then can the artwork achieve profound resonance, rich brushwork, clarity, and brilliance." He also feels that "studying and copying calligraphy models requires deep insight; monumental calligraphy creation especially demands enlightenment. Calligraphy expresses the heart, painting reveals the inner voice. Only through true understanding of the rules of calligraphy can one freely and skillfully write." Cai Jingzhong’s works have won awards in national literary and art competitions as well as international monumental calligraphy events. His artworks are collected by temples, Taoist monasteries, institutions, and individuals both domestically and overseas. Some pieces are housed in the Great Hall of the People; others have been permanently collected by the editorial department of *People's Literature* magazine. In October 2010, he was awarded the honorary title of "Outstanding Figure in Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy"; in April 2014, his works passed appraisal for professional titles and market valuation standards for Chinese calligraphers and painters, earning him the international honorary title of "Qualified Chinese People's Artist"; in November 2015, he received the honor of "One of China's 70 Most Influential People's Artists," participating in the "People's Fine Arts Development Forum and Hanmo China—Summit Art: Invitation Exhibition of Masters of the Age"; in May 2016, he was awarded the honorary title of "China's Most Influential Celebrity"; in December 2016, he received the honorary title of "One of 30 Outstanding Contemporary News Artists and Image Ambassador of 2016." After more than thirty years of devoted study and practice, Cai Jingzhong has developed a unique personal style in monumental calligraphy characterized by "skilled brushwork, vigorous and seasoned lines, strong and powerful strokes, decisive and crisp execution, and strict adherence to structural rules." His works are profound and majestic, with steady and regulated ink application, ingenious composition, and versatile yet firm and fluid brush techniques. His artistry excels at integrating elements of dance, Tai Chi martial arts, poetic sentiment, and painterly imagery into his monumental calligraphy, achieving complete harmony between form and spirit in every character. Some characters resemble "a beauty arranging her hair," while others appear like "a dragon emerging from the sea," embodying a distinctive aesthetic of balanced strength and softness. Each piece receives high praise and recognition from renowned calligraphy masters in today’s art circles, possessing exceptional value for collection and appreciation!
